Born from a daring collaboration between L’Epée 1839 and The Dial Artist, this exceptional creation redefines the concept of time as art. The Grenade TDA-P transforms the provocative symbolism of the Art-Bomb into a visual metaphor of peace, love, and creativity. In graffiti culture, “bombing” is the rapid act of leaving one’s mark — here, it becomes a celebration of artistic expression and individuality. The L’Epée 1839 x The Dial Artist Grenade embodies the collision of two worlds: Luxury Swiss Watchmaking and Street Art. What was once an emblem of conflict is reborn as a vibrant kinetic sculpture — a joyful explosion of colour and craftsmanship that “pulls the pin” on conformity. Each piece is a symphony of precision mechanics and free-flowing expression, bridging the meticulous order of horology with the spontaneous spirit of urban creativity. The creative force behind this collaboration, Chris Alexander, known as The Dial Artist, is a British designer and painter based in Scotland. Inspired by his upbringing in the colourful landscapes of South Africa, and drawing from influences such as street art, pop culture, astrology and abstract expressionism, Chris channels his experiences into vivid, emotionally charged compositions. After earning his Master’s in Design from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland, Chris founded The Dial Artist in 2017 — a platform where fine art meets watchmaking. With over two decades of creative expertise, he has mastered the use of experimental paints, lacquers, and mixed techniques to produce his signature abstract dials — miniature canvases that turn every timepiece into a living gallery. For Chris, each project is a collaboration between client, artist, and watch, where shared passion and vision result in a unique, moving work of art.

  • Materials: Palladium-plated brass and stainless steel construction with polished, satin-brushed and sandblasted finishes; paintwork created with synthetic and ceramic-based lacquers applied by spray and brush.
  • Color: Hand-painted (The Dial Artist finish — TDA-P unique colourway). (TDA references denote The Dial Artist one-off colourways; this piece is a unique painted variant.) 
  • Dimensions & Weight: 120.5 mm (height) × 77.6 mm (width) × 66.6 mm (depth); weight ≈ 620 g. 
  • Time display: Hours and minutes shown on black aluminium disks with engraved numerals; time is set by the grenade pin on top of the frame and the mainspring is wound from the bottom. 
  • Case: Grenade-shaped kinetic frame in palladium-plated brass and stainless steel with a mix of polished, satin and sandblasted surfaces; the pin doubles as the key for setting the time — a functional sculptural element that anchors the piece’s street-art spirit. 
  • Dial: A unique, hand-applied lacquered dial (The Dial Artist’s abstract bursts of colour and texture) — each piece is one-of-a-kind, treated as a small moving canvas within the mechanical grenade sculpture.
